Forgiveness is the release of the emotional attachment to a Moment or event. With forgiveness, the moment no longer carries the stinging negative charge within you.
Forgiveness is a balm to the past and provides a path to a healing and focused future.
Forgiveness Myth
The notion that you have to receive another’s forgiveness for you to be forgiven, is, I believe, false*. In the past, controlling religious organizations and educational institutions would parade the “sinner” before the congregation where the “sinner” proffers the correct and adequate apology.
What are the key steps to forgiving yourself?
- Mindset: be gentle with yourself and speak to yourself gently, not judging, and without any harsh or demeaning self-criticism
- Ownership and context: don’t make excuses, however, reflect on your choices within the context of the situation
- Making amends: 100% your decision. Sincerely apologize, make efforts to repair damage you caused, personal commitment to reflecting on your choices and choosing better decisions in the future.
